Vi

Vi is a wearable Ai fitness trainer. The device is a crowdfunding success story - wearable tech company LifeBeam raised $1.7 million on Kickstarter to create the new heart rate-tracking headphones. Vi is a voice coach rooted in artificial intelligence that guides the user through your workout, and has an optical heart rate sensor built in. Unlike competitor training products, Vi’s advanced conversational Ai makes her sound like a person you’d want to talk to, and train with.

Along with the design team at Locus and our client LifeBeam, I worked on the voice Ai strategy, integrated UX and hardware design, and marketing for the Kickstarter campaign.

Conversational Ai

Vi responds to contextual triggers, like heart rate, speed, and music. She provides customized coaching in a warm, human tone. We created a persona and notification system that encourages accountability by figuring out what people actually respond to - what motivates them.

I worked with the team to refine and test the language and verbal UX.

Ergonomic Design

Vi was designed for high impact activity in a variety of conditions and can be worn by a vast range of body types and sizes.

Durable, flexible, quality materials can withstand daily use, sweat, and environmental exposure.

We experimented with many form factors and interations, and worked closely with manufacturer and prototypers overseas to hone the final design.

UX/UI Design

The UX/UI for Vi's companion app delivers the same caliber of premium quality as the Ai and hardware. Data gathered about heart rate, cadence, distance, location, vertical climb, calories, speed, pace, and is tracked, stored and messaged out - through daily digests and personal bests.

We listened to users' demands and gave them what they wanted - ability to pair with all of their current favorite fitness tracking and music apps - including Strava and Spotify - for the best, personalized training experience.
